What a government shutdown means to potential EB-5 investors

Published on 12/21/2018

Hello, I’m Vaughan de Kirby. As you know I’m an Investment Immigration Attorney. And today I wanted to give you a brief update on what’s happening with EB-5.

I’d love to give you some certainty, but as I speak today, Congress is trying to hammer out a compromise with President Trump to continue running part of the government and avoid a shutdown, and at the same time continue EB-5.

Now there’re two scenarios that could occur. One hopefully they will extend the government even briefly, which would extend EB-5 to February 8th. But it is very possible that the government will in fact have a partial shutdown and that will also shut down EB-5. But you need to know what’s happened in the past: the government will reopen the sections of the government that have been closed and that will include EB-5.

EB-5 is not going to disappear permanently. It may disappear for a short period of time. If EB-5 is important to you, you should continue working with your attorney and doing your homework on EB-5, because it is going to come back and it’s going to come back for you. Thank you!

Please feel free to contact us or call 415-221-2345 if you have questions on your EB-5 application. We look forward to working with you!
