What options do I have once I graduate to stay in the U.S.?

A:

After completing your course of study on the F-1 visa there are a number of ways to extend your stay in the United States. One option is to apply for practical training, usually used by students in the form of Occupational Practice Training (OPT). OPT allows a recent graduate to work in the U.S. for the purpose of gaining practical training in their field of study. However, OPT status can last for a maximum period of one year after completing of F-1 studies, and you must apply for a working authorization in order to be allowed to work in OPT status.

Because OPT lasts for a maximum of one year, many of our clients wish to find out their options beyond OPT. All other options in some way involve changing one's status to another type of visa. Contact our lawyers to consider your visa options.
