What is the purpose of a reentry permit?

A: This permit is intended to allow a green card holder, permanent resident, to ask to be admitted to the U.S. after return from abroad. Such a reentry permit is not required in all cases however it is a good idea to consider if one is planning to be outside the U.S. for an extended period of time. If planning to leave the U.S. for more than a 6 month period it is a good idea to discuss the reentry permit option with our attorneys.
